Weeks after hurricanes Harvey and Irma caused billions of dollars in damage, the national construction labor shortage is hampering rebuilding efforts in some of the hardest-hit communities.
According to The Wall Street Journal, in Texas, where Harvey damaged more than 30,000 homes, 69% of construction contractors said they were struggling to fill positions.
A survey by Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida found that 88 percent of construction firms expressed plans to increase hiring during 2017, and 84 percent predicted they would have difficulty filling those jobs. And that survey was conducted in March, long before Irma did between $20-and-$40 billion in property damage.
